An energy retailer needed a more efficient way to track energy attribute certificates (EAC) while improving transparency for customers and ensuring compliance. REspring provides blockchain-based renewable energy traceability with technology, locational and temporal granularity.
The energy retailer used REspring as a premium green energy package for its industrial customers. The software collects renewable energy data and certificates in one place. This helps energy managers to save time in their data collection, audit and reporting and to take data-driven decisions on their energy sourcing. The platform registers the exact moment at which each kWh is generated and the plant that has produced it, indicating to the client its levels of consumption at any given time. It can also assign guarantees of origin or associated green attributes to each point of consumption. Energy buyers can prove that EACs have been cancelled correctly for each of their consumption points, audited on blockchain. Consolidating all certificates from all over the world in one place - downloadable with a click – means that blockchain acts as digital notary: an immutable database that checks the information is not tampered with. Data on the energy source can be viewed in real-time and downloaded and energy buyers can check all environmental attributes of their energy certificates.
This partnership helped the energy retailer achieve a leadership position by pioneering a way to provide its clients with the traceability of the renewable origin of their electricity generation in real-time. Currently, REspring is tracking 2.5 GWh sourced from different renewable generation plants in Spain, Mexico, Chile and Portugal that are assigned to 24 of its clients and 35 consumption points.
